Ruby White Waters

Mrs. Ruby Waters passed away Saturday, March, 20 at the Savannah Oaks Hospice, where she had been a resident for over a year. Born in Stilson, Ga., November 15, 1907, Ruby was married to Charlie Waters for 75 years, until his death in 2000. Ruby will be laid to rest at his side in Greenwich Cemetery.

As a young girl, Ruby lived in the farming town of Brooklet, Georgia and moved with Charlie to Savannah when they were married. Other than living a few years in Sylvania, where Charlie was a partner in an automobile dealership, they have lived mostly in Savannah. After Charlie’s retirement from the American Can Company, they moved to Lakeland, Fl., to be with brothers and sisters, but moved back to Savannah in 1984 when their granddaughter was born. During their active life in Savannah, Charlie and Ruby were members of Taliaferro Baptist Church and after returning from Florida, members of Calvary Baptist Temple in Savannah.

Ruby is survived by her son, Don Waters, his wife, Kathi, and granddaughter, Aimee Mrs. Judson Barnes. Don is a native Savannahian and he and his family are long-time Savannah residents. Ruby has several nieces and nephews. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Duncan of Harlem, Ga., and Dr. and Mrs. Walter Widdowson of Jacksonville, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell White, Jr., of Reynolds Plantation and Mrs. Robert G. Waters, Sr. of Lakeland. FL.

The funeral will be at the Fox and Weeks Chapel on Hodgson Memorial Dr. in Savannah, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2006 . A graveside ceremony will follow for family and friends. The Reverend Mike Dorough, a member of the family, from the Second Baptist Church of Warner Robbins will officiate.
